Where HIV/AIDS meets homelessness
At the very beginning of the HIV epidemic, a young Las Vegas "Jubilee" dancer named Chris Carter passed away on the floor of his parents' garage. Little was known about the disease. His family didn't want to disown him, but they also didn't want him to spread it in the house.
Las Vegas came together in 1987, creating a production called Golden Rainbow. It's mission was to ensure that those living with HIV/AIDS would not die homeless and alone.
Golden Rainbow continues this mission today. The HIV epidemic isn't over. In Clark County alone, there are more than 2000 people living with HIV/AIDS while experiencing homelessness.
Our Mission
Golden Rainbow is the agency of choice supporting those living with HIV/AIDS in Southern Nevada by providing emergency assistance, education, financial aid, and affordable housing in a safe and inclusive environment.
